Public Service Announcement - Hold on to Your Bottles

Every race season, countless crashes are caused by bouncing bidons.

ONLY YOU
CAN PREVENT STRAY BOTTLES

With the Poolesville Road race this weekend, it's time to take off those fancy carbon cages, and install some cheap aluminum ones. Bend em a bit to make 'em extra snug.

Dropped bottles are bad enough, but somehow the idea of tossing your bottle at the end of the race persists as an acceptable practice in some minds. IT IS NOT. You'd have to be as skinny as "the next great American Climber" for 2oz. of plastic to hold you back.

Don't believe that it's dangerous? Check it:

Together, we can make a difference.

Monkey Face of the Day

Not getting dropped but want to be on our glorious website? Make a monkey face!! This guy gets it.

We'll be looking out for monkey faces all season long. If you find one, send them our way. Link is over there to the right. Thanks and thanks to Julie Elliot for the photo.

PSA - Lititz Cat 3 and Cat 4 Crashes - Don't Overcook Corners

First off..hope everybody involved in this crash is ok. From our sources, we heard the initial crashee got taken away to the hospital but can walk and function. We hope this is the case.

Secondly, HOLY CRAP! This is even making the rounds on non-cycling related websites by NBA features writers. Oh, do non-cyclists love to see us smash ourselves up good.

Thirdly, don't overcook corners. It's bad for your health.

Fourthly, the guy screaming to 'go go go go!' after the crash...What up with that? Discuss.

*Update...The above is the Cat 4 crash. Below is the Cat 3 crash. Damn! You were gonna win bro!

Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2012 – How The Race Was Won

Didn't have time to watch Liege-Bastongne-Liege this past weekend? With your schedule of bike races, work, home improvement, lazer hair removal surgery, guitar hero, leg lotion application (you know who you are), and watching the kids, life can get kind of crazy. That is, of course you are one of those annoying HTC kids who all they do is ride all day and play xbox at night.

I sat down yesterday and tried to watch Liege-Bastonge-Liege in its entirety after missing out this weekend. DVR 87% full!! I have some work to do here! Within minutes, I'm off the couch with a neighbor at the door asking for a ladder. That moment created a butterfly effect of epic proportions snowballing my evening in front of the tube. I wasn't even able to watch RGIII get drafted in real time. Is this America anymore??

Anyway, knowing I might never watch the Liege race in its entirety, I remembered seeing these 'How the Race Was Won' vids on Cyclocosm and tuned in. Bam...5 minutes later..I feel up to date on how it played out, got some snarky comments that I think my readers would enjoy, and saved myself about 3 hours. Hommes does this almost every week. Check it out.

Not getting paid or promoted by Cyclocosm..just a time saver tip I thought I'd pass on so you can concentrate on training and recovery instead of wasting all your time watching pro bike races all the time.

Next up..infographics. If you do anything remotely related to education, media affairs, or cow farming, you probably have come across an infographic or two. Graphic design and media relations companies are now developing infographics for clients to quickly show why X in important, cool, or whatever. There have been a few targeted for the potential cyclist. This one grabbed my attention.

Lastly...if you could only have one... Cervelo or the chick?

Due to high demand, new socks will be ready in June/July. See? I do more than just  make fun of you!

We're Huge in Japan..

The gospel is spreading worldwide. Thanks to these fellows in New Zealand for supporting You Got Dropped. Big shout out to Velo Espresso and all the kiwis working hard to avoid droppage in Hamilton, New Z.

And yes...we've sent t's to Japan too!

Sobe - A year in review..so far!

The MABRA Champion Jersey wears heavy.

We like to break balls. Sobe finished 2nd in the Masters race in a two-man break with another one of his teammates earlier in the day. But this is priceless.

Public Service Announcement - Pull Out

Folks...if you get dropped in a race where there are 3 races happening simultaneously, consider a DNF...

or something beautiful might happen and be captured on digital film such as this masterpiece below:

Yes..this is the field sprint during the Cat 3/4 race at Jefferson Cup. However, the rider in the forefront of the image was in the Masters race.  Not sure if he got dropped or crashed (his shifter is bent), but he sure looks like he's still giving it a go..and even has the where with all to stop his wristwatch across the line.

Minor issue with this image. This master racer shouldn't be in the image at all. As soon as the moto passed him, GET THE EFF OUT OF THE WAY!! Glad you all pay that USA Cycling insurance fees in your entries. It's for shit like this. Everybody is just lucky that a crash of epic proportions didn't occur.

Seriously, USA Cycling seems to be getting in the game of making sure people's feelings don't get hurt and letting riders continue on even when they get the Big Dropowski. This isn't Little League where everybody needs to play an inning or two.

PULL RIDERS!! PLEASE. Furthermore..DON'T SCORE THEM IF THEY DON'T FINISH and nobody will have the incentive to finish a race if they get the ol' drop.

word.

Tidewater Droppage. Drop early and often my friends

Proof that even fast guys even get the momentary lapse of droppage.

Dan Netzer and Frank Cundiff of Celerity dropped at the start of the William & Mary Tidewater Classic A race due to an ill-timed wheel change. Make sure you watch all the way for the droppage.

They sent this in so I felt compelled to post but on a scale of 1-10 of droppage, this is maybe a 3. Still, folks..this is a good example of what we are looking for here at YGD. If, perhaps, they never got back on and were dropped as a result of lack of fitness, this would be perfect.

Keep the reader submissions coming. Content is a good thing.

Jeff Cup - Droppage from the back

We'll be here all week folks..thank you. Photo courtesy BikeWorks Racing.

JEFF CUP 1/2/3 PROGNOSTICATING

Last week, we were a little disappointed with the turnout of droppage at Black Hills. Sure, there were some DNFs at Black Hills..but it wasn't TOO BAD (er..bad meaning bad or bad meaning good..either way) and most of all..those that got dropped weren't photographed. Or were they?

So photographers out there...don't forget about us. It's effin' racing droppage season and YGD is ready to post.

This year YGD is going to try his best at getting you pumped for the big races of the year but laying it out there for you. We'll do our best to prognosticate. Then, maybe Monday or Tuesday of the following week..we'll get back to the business of posting up funny pics of droppage. Give the people what they want, we always say.

Anywhooo..the big ol' jefferson cup is this weekend. This is the 25th or so annual running of this race of MABRA's historical spring classic. The weather has ranged from snow, rain, sunshine. Wins have been from sprints, big breaks, two man breaks...everything.  The course isn't super hard but it has it's spots. Perhaps the biggest area of concern is a short hill about 3 miles from the start/finish area. At the top of this hill, a winery owned by Dave Matthews is on the left.  If you get dropped, it's a great place to unwind and watch the rest of the race while sipping on Virginia Cabernet. I'm not saying that I've ever done that..just a tip.

Let's look at the contenders:

The obvious front runner are the bullies of the MABRA peloton; XO Communications p/b Cisco: These guys lost three of their top riders. Chuck Hutch is doing the same thing in NorCal that he did here and the Tims have moved on as well. But WAIT, The Mexicutioner is back and on a brand new unicorn bike! If you are in this race and you see the name Russ Langely on the start list, you probably cringed..just a little. Then you have DeWald and of course Weiler got his ass upgraded, Escobar..and NINE others who are all capable of making the race hard. Lots of bullets to fire for these guys. Hard to believe that training on a unicorn is so effective.

 Fuentes on his new bike.

Some in MABRA might not know about the VeloShine team led by John Delong. But wait, did somebody see Scottie Weiss on the start list?  We will be checking out their bikes just to see how clean these wipes can get them after the race.

NCVC this year has a small but efficient crew of guys that have been riding together for a few years now. It looks like they are putting together a nice little elite group of guys compared to the 1,000 Cat 4/5s you see in the other fields.

Kelly Benefits is bringing a full squad to Jeff Cup with Berbert, R, Jeff 'I must break you' Brandon leading the charge.. Oh, and former Navigator pro Tricky Ricky Norton might have something to say before the day is through.

The course is home turf for the boys at Cutaway-3 Sports. The roster is filled with talented riders who I bet are pre-riding the course right now and warning the locals to stop with the bottle braking business that seems to happen the night before every year. Someone should make like Emilio and have a stakeout the night before.

New to the elite ranks in MABRA is Bike Doctor. Will all the Sobe sandbagging talk from last year be legitimized when he flies away solo from the gun? If so, strip him of that jersey! They showed legs last week at Black Hills but are they going to be ready to handle the tactics of an 80 mile road race with the big boys?

Lastly, we have Joe Dombrowski from Bontragor-Livestrong aka One Man Gang. We all remember his Haymarket days of riding away from the field at Vint Hills as a Cat 3, then winning Jeff Cup a week or two later...then unable to drink the champagne he won. right? The kid is the real deal. Can he slip into the winning move again or is he too much of a marked man?
Joe rocks this mohawk and wrassles in the off-season to prep for UCI races around the world.

Well, that's all for now. Jeff Cup is where YGD got it's start so we're very excited to get this season going. Buy a shirt and support this shit.  My brake pads are wearing worn out and I'm entertaining you.

Team Bike Doctor and You Got Dropped Collaborate on Black Hills KOM Challenge

..cut and pasted from GamJams because they write better than we do.

Team Bike Doctor and You Got Dropped Collaborate on Black Hills KOM Challenge

Team Bike Doctor asked the Twitterverse on Tuesday, "Who will be Strava king of the mountain on Sunday at Black Hills?" DJ Brew (Clean Currents p/b Don Beyer KIA (nee Volvo)) is the current segment leader, having blazed the finishing hill in only 21 seconds during a recon mission of the course two weeks before last year's inaugural event. Alexis Zink (NCVC / United Healthcare) holds the women's KOM at 41 seconds. No stranger to punking Strava segments, Zink owns several dozen Strava records in the Bethesda and Potomac region.
YgdtYouGotDropped echoed Team Bike Doctor's challenge and will award a You Got Dropped t-shirt to anyone who usurps Brew for Strava segment supremacy on the finishing hill. GamJams likes the ladies, and is putting up a pair of GamJams socks to any woman who is able to take over Zink's KOM ownership during the Black Hills race.
Called "the zone 2 deathknell (sic)" by a local cyclocross celebrityStravauses the GPS in your Garmin, iPhone or other device to record rides for virtual comparison against other riders.
The Black Hills Circuit Race runs on Sunday March 25th in Black Hills Regional Park in Boyds, MD. Slots are still open in the juniors and women's races. If you have registered but haven't done any VO2 max intervals yet this season, well then we can't help you.

Machine Gun

We think this guy takes getting dropped too seriously...

First Drop of 2012!!!!

OMG! I'm so excited. Almost...giddy.
A fan recently posted on facebook pictures of the Snowcone race on the facebook with the first droppage of the season. They even tagged You Got Dropped (thanks). Looks like Dan King is off the front (again) with the grouppo compacto. Even with the groupo compacto AND what looks to be a flat course, there is a victim of the drop in the background !

ULTRA NON FITNESS DROPPAGE!!!

Remember kids. Only YOU can prevent droppage. Do threshold intervals at least once a week and jump on a group ride every now and then to lessen your chances of ultra bouts of droppage. Also, stay away from the leftover Russel Stovers.

Also..it's hump day. Here you go!

Now Jan got the Ban

Jan Ulrich received a retroactive ban and was stripped of a TDF podium. This is SO GOOD FOR CYCLING!!

I can't argue though..he was looking a little different during his last TDF effort. Here is the not so famous picture of Jan after that infamous warmup session in the bike shop.
\
Also, this picture has something to do with Tom Boonen. Belgium is a great great place.

Season is right around the corner. Droppage soon. Oh yes...the droppage.

I'm Doing Something Wrong

This is a far cry from my Service Course. Pedlnaround's HumpDay for life!!!

More Trials on Road Bikes

If you see any of similar equipment on ebay in the next couple weeks, I'd take a pass!!

Finger Bang - This weekend in doping news

In case you haven't heard, Alberto got the shaft. The old 'clenbuterol in my Spanish steak' argument didn't hold for the Finger Banger and his results from 2010 on have been revoked.

So now Andy Schleck will be elevated, 2 years later as Tour de France champion. Hooray!

The Friday prior, Lance Armstrong got the W from the feds on his case, mainly because Armstrong has some excellent lawyers. I don't care what anybody says. Does this look like the face of somebody who would take drugs?

Whatever these guys have done..or not done..it's always a good reminder that Finger Bang is an excellent song and super catchy.

Straight Outta Bike Friday

Several years ago, I did the 7AM Group Ride from Rock Creek Park. As many of you know, it's a spirited ride and getting dropped is often a possibility for even a strong rider. A guy, who is on travel, rolls up on a Bike Friday. He gets up all the hills with the front group and even mixed it up in the sprint finish. Impressive.

I hadn't thought about that fellow for awhile...until now. Some young whipper snappers took some travel bikes and got their BMX on...all for the sheer joy of getting stupid. I'm debating what's more impressive. I'm sure both parties had equal stoke. Happy Friday, bisshes!!

Happy Friday!!
